6th Grade

Learning Goals for Sixth Grade


Students will:
  • Ask questions and seek to learn more about the world around them.
  • Socialize with peers and teachers and improve communication skills.
  • Learn to become responsible and respectful individuals.
  • Use spelling rules, affixes, and roots to learn the meaning of new words. Spell words correctly through memorization and use of applicable tools. 
  • Increase application of advanced grammar rules in writing
  • Conduct novel studies analyzing and interpreting literary and informational texts across genres throughout the year.
  • Formalize writing. Write argumentative, informative, explanatory, and narrative texts for a specific topic and audience.
  • In math: study data (graphs, variables, formulas), decimals, rational number uses and operations, geometry, number systems, algebra concepts, probability and discrete mathematics, and rates and ratios.
  • Investigate the world around them through the scientific process, problem-solving, and thinking critically. Apply the scientific process to projects.
  • Have the opportunity to apply knowledge gained across subjects to create STEAM projects.
  • Study world geography, governments, history, and economics.
  • Increase self-responsibility – be prepared for the challenges of middle school.

*We provide all school supplies – Including 1:1 computers for grades 5 and 6.
