Learning Goals for Fifth Grade (End of Year Expectations)


Students will:
  • Ask questions and seek to learn more about the world around them.
  • Socialize with peers and teachers and improve communication skills.
  • Learn to become responsible and respectful individuals.
  • Follow a scope and sequence that will guide them through learning spelling rules and building foundations in understanding word meanings, breaking down spelling rules, and examining affixes and root word bases.
  • Conduct novel studies analyzing and interpreting literary and informational texts across genres throughout the year.
  • Explore specific types of writing – Narrative, Opinion/Persuasive, and Informational. Students will also follow the writing process during which they brainstorm, draft, revise, edit, and publish their written work.
  • Focus on Area and Volume, Whole Number Place Value and Operations, Fraction concepts, Addition, and Subtraction, Decimal Concepts; Coordinate Grids, Operations with Fractions, and Investigations in Measurement; Decimal Multiplication and Division.
  • Investigate the world around them through the scientific process, problem-solving, and thinking critically.
  • Have the opportunity to apply knowledge gained across subjects to create STEAM projects.
  • Study US History including the Geography of the United States

What does my child need to start?
  • A backpack
  • A lunch (Can be provided through our vendor)
  • A change of clothes
  • Successful completion of an accredited 4th grade program
  • A positive attitude and eagerness to learn
*We provide all school supplies. – Including 1:1 computers for grades 5 and 6.
