Hale Keiki (House of Children) School, formerly Navy Hale Keiki School was organized and established in 1946 as a nonprofit organization. Over the years, it has served the military and surrounding local community as a nursery school, preschool, and since 1967, an early childhood program for students in preschool and continuing through grade six.
The original HKS campus was located near the current Makalapa Gate at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Students attended classes in Quonset huts until the early 1970s, when the school relocated to its current grounds on Bougainville Drive.
