A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR LIFELONG LEARNING

Students develop curiosity and a love of learning as they ask questions and explore the world around them through hands‑on experiences. They build strong social and communication skills while learning to take turns, share, and work cooperatively with peers and teachers. The program supports fine and gross motor development through activities such as cutting, gluing, drawing with proper grip, and movement. Students gain early academic readiness by recognizing and tracing their name, learning colors, shapes, letters, and letter sounds, and developing early math skills such as counting to 10 and matching numbers to objects. They also strengthen listening skills, emotional awareness, independence, and responsibility through daily routines, classroom jobs, and caring for personal and school belongings.

LEARNING, LAUGHTER, AND LOTS OF FUN

Preschool at Hale Keiki is filled with joyful, enriching experiences that make learning exciting every day. Students enjoy hands‑on activities with multisensory materials, imagination‑building toys, and creative art projects, along with daily storytime, circle time, songs, and show‑and‑tell. Children connect with older students through Reading Buddies and build confidence during special moments like Principal Time. Weekly enrichment classes—including art, music, physical education, and library—support whole‑child development, while plenty of recess time (two recesses for those in aftercare) allows for play and movement. Throughout the year, children participate in field trips, schoolwide celebrations such as Halloween trick‑or‑treating and a Thanksgiving Feast, winter and spring performances, parent involvement events, special themed days, and end‑of‑year celebrations—creating happy memories and a true sense of belonging in our school community.

GETTING READY FOR PRESCHOOL

To help your child start Preschool confidently and comfortably, a few simple items are needed for each school day. Children should be fully potty trained and come prepared with a backpack containing a complete change of clothes, including shoes, with all items clearly labeled with their name. Each child should also bring a reusable, labeled water bottle. For students staying for aftercare, a lunch is required (or may be ordered through our school vendor), along with a small blanket and pillow for rest time. These items help ensure a smooth day filled with learning, play, and care.

PRESCHOOL READINESS SKILLS

To be successful in our Preschool program, incoming students should be fully potty trained and able to use the restroom independently. Children should also demonstrate a willingness and ability to listen to and follow simple directions, participate in group activities, and engage with teachers and peers. An eagerness to learn, explore, and try new activities helps children feel confident and ready to enjoy all that preschool has to offer.
