PREKINDERGARTEN
LEARNING GOALS
In Prekindergarten, students build strong academic, social, and developmental skills while nurturing curiosity and confidence. Children ask questions and explore the world around them through hands‑on learning experiences that support early science discovery. They strengthen communication and social skills as they interact with peers and teachers, practice cooperation, and engage in group activities. Fine and gross motor skills continue to develop through purposeful movement, scissor work, cutting, gluing, and writing tasks, with an emphasis on proper pencil grip. Academically, students learn to identify all uppercase and lowercase letters and recognize sounds for most letters, rote count to 20, match numbers to quantities, and identify patterns, colors, and shapes. Children also build independence, self‑help skills, and listening stamina by following directions and participating attentively during stories and lessons.
LEARNING, EXPLORATION, AND FUN IN PRE-K
Prekindergarten is filled with engaging experiences that make learning exciting and meaningful. Students enjoy hands‑on manipulatives, imagination‑building toys, and multisensory activities woven throughout the day, along with daily storytime, circle time, songs, and show‑and‑tell. Children participate in Reading Buddies with older students and enjoy special moments like Principal Time. Weekly enrichment classes—including art, music, physical education, and library—support creativity, coordination, and a love of learning, while daily recess (two for students in aftercare) allows time for play and movement. Throughout the year, children take part in field trips, schoolwide celebrations such as Halloween and a Thanksgiving Feast, winter and spring performances, parent involvement events, special themed days, and joyful end‑of‑year celebrations that strengthen community and create lasting memories.

GETTING READY FOR PRE-K
To ensure a smooth and successful start to the Prekindergarten year, students should be fully potty trained and able to manage restroom needs independently. Each child should bring a backpack containing a complete change of clothes, including shoes, with all items clearly labeled. A reusable, labeled water bottle is also required for daily hydration. Students staying for aftercare should bring a lunch (or may order one through our school vendor) as well as a small blanket and pillow for rest time.
PRE-K READINESS SKILLS
Incoming Prekindergartners should be fully potty trained and demonstrate the ability and willingness to listen to and follow simple directions. A positive attitude, curiosity, and eagerness to learn are essential for success in the classroom. These foundational skills help children feel confident, engaged, and ready to participate fully in the Prekindergarten experience.
